Violence is a pervasive issue affecting 75% of all children worldwide. The impact of violence can be devastating, resulting in long-term physical, emotional, and mental health issues. Violence can take many different forms, including physical and psychological abuse, sexual exploitation and abuse, and neglect or intentional deprivation. Unfortunately, violence against women and girls (VAWG) or gender-based violence (GBV) is a global pandemic that affects 1 in 3 women in their lifetime.

Kenya has not been spared the scourge of violence, particularly GBV, which has increased significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic has brought with it difficult economic times, leading to an increase in domestic violence cases. Women and children are the most vulnerable to GBV, and it is essential to protect them from violence.

It is our responsibility as a society to protect women and children from violence. This involves creating awareness about the prevalence and impact of violence and promoting a culture of non-violence. It also involves creating support systems for victims of violence, including counseling and medical support. Furthermore, laws and policies should be put in place to protect women and children from violence and hold perpetrators accountable.

Violence is a significant issue affecting children and women worldwide. GBV has been prevalent in Kenya, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting the need for measures to protect women and children from violence. As a society, we need to work together to create a culture of non-violence, create support systems for victims of violence, and put in place laws and policies to protect women and children from violence.
